In a news dump yesterday, major media reported on the release of information regarding Russia’s alleged efforts in the 2016 Presidential election. Like much of our news, it was a lot of fluff without any real substance.
However, that did not stop liberal media pundits from seizing on the “news” like it was some sort of validation. One of the most sickening, of course, was Daily Kos publisher Markos Moulitsas.
Still unable to accept the results of the 2016 election, Markos tweeted, “What’s tragic is that a real number of Bernie (and Jill Stein) supporters happily let themselves be used by Russia to undermine our democracy.”
Folks, that is some condescending, intellectually dishonest bullshit.
In a democracy, the people are supposed to be able to exercise their right to vote. Just because everyone did not vote your way, Markos, does not mean democracy was undermined. Or did all Trump voters undermine democracy?
You and other pundit idiots are just a few fits away from promoting bullshit political theorists like Jason Brennan, author of Against Democracy, because you also think people are too stupid to deserve to vote.
Also, where is the proof that Russia changed anyone’s mind ? You are assuming that people who followed sites like Blacktivists and BlackLivesUS were committed Hillary voters from the start. That’s a faulty assumption Hillary’s campaign reached as well.
The last time Hillary Clinton ran in a nationwide campaign was 2008,. She lost, you may recall.
Groups like Black Lives Matter have been stomping for social justice for quite some time. Their efforts have gained strength since the 2014 killing of Michael Brown, and with all the tragic police killings of unarmed black citizens that followed. A new generation of activists also came of age with the Occupy Wall Street Movement dating back to 2011.
Dissident views of “the establishment” and the criminal justice system are not new, and Hillary was a legitimate target of that anger. Furthermore, systemic racism is not merely the product of the GOP, many Democrats are complicit as well.
Russia did not create mass incarceration and Hillary Clinton (and her repulsive husband) have played a far bigger role in creating social injustice than Vladimir Putin. Some liberal political observers have even pointed to a film by Dinesh D’Souza — the whitest brown man on the planet and a man hated by liberals, and all sane human beings — as evidence of — don’t ask how — Russia influencing the 2016 vote.
This blame game is exhausting and it is distracting attention away from s the real issues. The big question for 2020 is will the Democratic Party put up a candidate who is listening to what voters are saying. Progressive voters are becoming more numerous and they don’t want Hillary Clinton, or Hillary Lite.
Pay attention, Markos. The signs of change are on the wall, and you don’t have to be influenced by Russia to see them. You — especially you — just have to be a little humble, STFU, and pay attention.
