The Wall Street Journal has been doing a bang up job, if that’s the right word, covering alleged misspending by the National Rifle Association under its longtime CEO, Wayne LaPierre. But we have more info than it does and pix, and the WSJ‘s coverage of the story is behind a paywall. so better to read Washington Babylon, as always.
To make a long story short, “LaPierre billed the group’s ad agency $39,000 for one day of shopping at a Beverly Hills clothing boutique, $18,300 for a car and driver in Europe and had the agency cover $13,800 in rent for a summer intern, according to newly revealed NRA internal documents.”

Also, according to that Slate story, “The NRA is also facing scrutiny over the case of Maria Butina, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison for serving as a foreign agent.” Butina was not a spy, I’m pretty sure, she was fucked by Robert Mueller as part of his bogus RussiaGate probe.
Was LaPierre sleeping with Butina in the apartment in question? Probably not, but you never know.
Anyway, here’s the deal on the summer intern, the use of NRA money to pay her rent and LaPierre’s possible affair with Butina.
According to the WSJ, citing leaked documents, LaPierre required the ad agency to pay nearly $14,000 to rent an apartment near the NRA’s headquarters for a summer intern named Megan Allen.
Ms. Allen has been quite the topic of conversation in NRA chat rooms. They even found some photos of her. She must be a fitness buff. (Note: That link no longer works, they must have taken it down.) She also does a lot of swimming.
Naturally there is a Trump connection.
Ms. Allen’s Facebook page is no longer accessible. But her WordPress account was still up yesterday but it’s been taken down today too. Fortunately I took some screen shots yesterday and they include photos she took at CPAC in 2016 – including one of LaPierre.
So that’s about it, but I have one more question. According to her recently deleted WordPress, “Megan is a 21 year old from Berryville, VA. She is a senior at Radford University and is studying communications with a concentration in public relations, a minor in psychology and a second minor in political science. She is also a member of the Delta Zeta sorority, Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), and the 1902 Society. While home from school she works at Costco Wholesale and interns for the gun lobby.”
So here’s the question: Ms. Allen was still in college in 2016. She lives in Berryville, Virginia, so she could have commuted from home to the NRA HQ in Fairfax. So why did they need to rent her an apartment? “
