I was initially in the tank for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but lately I’ve become a bit disillusioned with her. Most troubling to me, she’s wavered in opposing the Trump administration’s lunatic scheme to invade Venezuela and the CIA’s ongoing efforts to destroy that country’s electric grid and plunge the country into darkness to build support for an invasion or, failing that, a military coup.
I’m also concerned that, as previously reported here by Andrew Stewart, AOC appears not to be entirely the fresh-faced bartender she poses as, but has had political aspirations for a long time.
There are other things about AOC that bother me, such as her preening and grandstanding, her “Green New Deal,” which one member of congress — an idiot, no doubt — has mocked as an “elitist fantasy.” I’m not sure whether that’s true or not, but I prefer cities so if rural areas need to be sacrificed as our urban centers sprawl, so be it.
Anyway, AOC’s Green New Deal has won her plaudits from the New York intelligentsia, but it feels pretty empty to me.
Why not directly take on poverty, homelessness, racism and capitalism by calling them by their real names, instead of using environmentalism to make it go down easy?
AOC, I’m still not giving up on you, but I’m hoping for more.
In fact, if all goes according to plan, I’ll have more reporting on AOC next week here at Washington Babylon. I’m pretty busy this week with other items.
Note: I hear that AOC is involved with some sort or “social justice” bank, or something like that? Anyone else know about this?
If you have any tips, send them my way at Ken@WashingtonBabylon.com
